The Space Between Sleep and Wakefulness.

Hi everyone. It's great to be back with another blog post after a long time. In today's post, I'm going to discuss hypnagogic and hypnopompic states. Now hold the phone, what the hell is this? Please discuss in English, hellooo? You might be thinking like this in your head. But let me explain in simple terms, and you will understand what I am talking about, and it will make sense to you, don't worry.

What do 'hypnagogic' and 'hypnopompic states' mean? These words sound so complex, but their meanings are simple and relatable to most of us. Hypnagogic means the dreamlike experiences we sometimes feel when we are in a transition state from wakefulness to sleep. It might be a falling sensation or a floating sensation, but only when we are transitioning from wake mode to sleep mode. Hypnopompic means the state just before waking up; it can also be a falling experience or sometimes a hallucination with sound, visuals or even feelings. This usually accompanies sleep paralysis, a topic we talked about in previous articles. This is scary stuff when you're experiencing it firsthand.

Did you know that these hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations, lucid dreams and other parasomnias have similarities? By parasomnias, I meant sleep disorders like sleepwalking and nightmares. They are all linked together from falling asleep to waking up from a sleep. We all know by now how many stages and steps there are to sleep from my past blog post. So if someone has all these combined in their sleep, I hope they will pray to God before sleep and probably go to a psychiatrist for help, no joke!

Also, scientists and psychiatrists have discovered that different population groups or different people with disabilities, such as blind people or deaf people or people with different interpersonal levels, have different types of dreams and all the above-mentioned hypnotic states. It is strange that sometimes when we talk about these things, we can relate to one another, having the same experiences, but at the same time, the other person must have experienced something totally different in sleep that we can't comprehend. Yet another example to showcase how life is strange.

And with that, I am going to pause this blog post, hoping to see you on the next one. Also, if you want to look into this more, there are so many articles and research on these topics on Google, and you can do some light research on it. It's so interesting, and if we meet, maybe we can talk about it together.

Live your life with purpose. Have a nice day!
